T4 Digital Studio has launched T4 Inventory Scout, a standalone Windows application designed to create a searchable visual inventory of installed VST plug-ins. Developed and tested around an Ableton Live workflow, the application presents plug-ins as visual cards rather than relying solely on text-based browser lists.
T4 Inventory Scout gathers available plug-in images from Ableton Live and combines them with information including the product name, developer, category and plug-in format. The resulting inventory can be searched, sorted by plug-in name and browsed by category.
The application is intended for users managing extensive collections of instruments, effects and production utilities. It includes a favourites function for marking regularly used plug-ins, along with a detail view for the currently selected entry.
A central part of the application is its local image database. If an installed plug-in does not already have an image stored in Scout, the software can retrieve an available image through its Ableton Live integration and add it to the database automatically. This process is designed to build the visual inventory progressively without requiring each missing image to be located and imported manually.
Categories displayed by T4 Inventory Scout include:
- Instruments and channel strips
- Compressors, equalizers, reverbs and delays
- Saturation, modulation, mastering and utility plug-ins
- Other plug-in types
T4 Inventory Scout has been developed specifically around Ableton Live. While it can display plug-ins installed for use with other DAWs, the current version has primarily been tested with Ableton Live.
T4 Inventory Scout is an independently developed product. Ableton Live and third-party product names and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners, and T4 Digital Studio is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ableton or third-party plug-in manufacturers.
T4 Inventory Scout is available for Windows through Gumroad as a pay-what-you-want download. Payment is voluntary, allowing users to evaluate the application before choosing whether to support its continued development.
