TAL Software has launched TAL-EQ, a graphical equalizer plugin now available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The new release combines real-time spectrum display with dynamic processing and multiple stereo editing modes, all running at zero latency.
TAL-EQ emulates the frequency response of classic analog equalizers while preserving filter topology under rapid dynamic modulation. A built-in spectrum analyzer shows frequency content and curve adjustments in real time, and the plugin is optimized for CPU efficiency without oversampling.
The interface allows double-click creation of EQ bands, SHIFT-click to enable dynamics on a new band, and drag-and-drop or mouse-wheel control of frequency and Q. Users can also enter values directly via keyboard. Each band supports full automation, undo/redo history and A/B comparison, helping engineers refine settings for any material.
Dynamic shelf and bell filters react to the input level of their frequency ranges, similar to side-chain compression but limited to specified bands. Controls include threshold (auto or manual), range (±36 dB), attack and release times. This feature can tame bass collisions between kick and bass tracks or perform transparent de-essing on vocal recordings.
Additional processing options cover output volume, panning and mid/side balance, and include a phase-invert switch. Filters can be applied to:
- Stereo signal
- Left or right channel
- Mid (mono) part
- Side (stereo) part
Plugin customization is extensive. A color dialog lets users select background and knob hues or enter custom hex codes. UI elements such as knobs, buttons and text can be scaled up or down, and a resizer adjusts the workspace without altering control size. Factory presets by Andi Vax, Solidtrax and Saif Sameer are included, and users can save, load and overwrite defaults.
MIDI Learn covers every band parameter, including band selection, and an “Edit selected” mode confines mapping to the active band. The preset menu provides quick access to undo/redo, A/B comparison and real-time FFT toggling. Double-clicking any control resets it to its default value for fast workflow recovery.
The plugin operates in demo mode until a registration key is entered. Online or offline activation is supported, and registration details—including the email address used—are accessible in the settings menu.
