Tonsturm has launched Windmaschine, a new wind effects library compatible with UVI Falcon and the free UVI Workstation. This virtual instrument reproduces the classic 1960s Windhowler Mole Effect while offering extensive editing and modulation options.
Windmaschine is built around four independent source channels, each hosting one of 19 resonator sets. A dedicated wind modulation system lets users shape dynamics and phrasing in real time, delivering fluid and realistic wind textures.
The instrument allows manual or automated blending between different “colors” of wind, giving sound designers direct control over timbre and intensity. Users can create smooth transitions or complex rhythmic patterns simply by adjusting modulation parameters.
To ensure authenticity, the development team captured samples from a mint-condition Windhowler unit. Every resonator and mechanical nuance was recorded and mapped, preserving the original sound signature while expanding its sonic palette.
Additional features include:
- A flexible effects section for shaping tone, ambience, and movement
- True stereo convolution reverb with custom impulse responses
- Presets covering natural environments, indoor spaces, and musical instrument ambiences
The built-in convolution reverb engine offers a range of true stereo impulse responses recorded in diverse settings. These include outdoor environments, studio rooms, and instrument bodies, allowing for detailed spatial placement and complex atmospheric layers.
