Ultra Audio has launched Ultra, a new virtual synthesizer plugin for macOS and Windows systems. The software is available as both a standalone application and as a plugin for use within compatible digital audio workstations.
Ultra is a virtual synth plugin developed by Ultra Audio and is designed to provide wavetable-based sound creation tools for music production and sound design. It can be installed in VST3 and AU formats, supporting integration with a range of DAWs on both supported platforms.
The plugin is built around the UltraWave™ engine, which the developer describes as patent pending. This engine forms the basis for several synthesis and sound design features intended to support detailed control over waveform creation and manipulation.
One of the core features of Ultra is its support for stereo wavetables. This functionality allows users to load different wavetable content into the left and right channels, enabling independent processing and spatial variation between channels. The design is intended to support immersive sound design approaches using stereo information at the wavetable level.
Ultra also includes multi sampling capabilities within its wavetable system. Users can assign different wavetables across pitch ranges and velocity layers, with the UltraWave™ engine morphing between these sources in real time. This process is designed to generate hybrid wavetables that change dynamically based on performance input.
Additional sound-shaping tools include pitch and amplitude curve extraction. This feature allows users to import pitch and amplitude data from audio samples, such as vocal phrases or instrumental recordings, and apply that information to wavetable content. The intent is to enable more complex and evolving waveform behavior derived from recorded material.
The plugin provides advanced WAV import functionality, allowing users to create wavetables directly from audio files. This process includes extracting cycles from waveforms and auditioning them during sound design, offering a hands-on workflow for constructing custom wavetables from source audio.
Ultra includes access to an online sound library that is described as continuously expanding. The library contains patches created by members of the Ultra artist community. Users can browse available sounds from within the plugin, purchase additional sound content using credits, and install patches directly into their local library.
The software operates under a perpetual license model and does not require a subscription. Ultra can be tried for free, and the developer states that licensed users receive lifetime free updates. A rent-to-own option is also available alongside the standard license.
Ultra is compatible with macOS and Windows systems and can be used either as a standalone application or as a plugin within supported DAWs, depending on the user’s workflow preferences.
The Ultra virtual synth plugin is available at an introductory 40% discount. The perpetual license is priced at USD 149 during the promotion, reduced from USD 249, and includes 100 sound credits. A rent-to-own option is also offered at a 40% discounted rate for the duration of the promotion.
