Software developer, [(Un)familiar], has launched a new spectral delay plugin named Spectralsand. The plugin, compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, is built around a central array and the concept of signal printing.
Spectralsand has the ability to break down the frequency spectrum into hundreds of tiny bits, each delayed by a specific amount of time. This unique feature allows it to alter the timbre of any input it receives. The delay times are organized in a graph that can be manipulated by various sources. Users can utilize basic shapes, white noise, custom waveforms, and even a separate audio input, opening up new possibilities for sound creation.
Features of Spectralsand
- Time: This feature allows users to control the delay of each bin. The delay can be offset between the left and right channels, creating wide delays.
- Feedback: This feature feeds the delays back into themselves, creating unique, exponential echoes. It also includes a panic button to prevent any potential damage to the user’s hearing.
- Osc Type: Users can choose from a variety of shapes to print onto the array. They can also change the frequency of the oscillators and invert their shapes. The full version of the plugin includes a custom oscillator function.
- BinSize: This feature allows users to control how many pieces Spectralsand breaks the input into, with a range from 128-2048.
- Mix: This feature allows users to blend the original input with the delayed output to find a perfect balance.
- Sidechain Mode (Full Version Only): This feature allows users to send Spectralsand a sidechain input from another audio source to find unconventional combinations of two sounds. It includes a boost function to make the sidechain input more pronounced.
- Randomize (Full Version Only): This feature allows users to randomize the plugin’s settings.
- Themes (Full Version Only): Spectralsand includes the ability to load and create its own themes in a matter of minutes. Users can customize their copy of the plugin to fit their unique style. It also comes with some of the best themes created by the Spectralsand community.
A feature-limited “mud edition” of Spectralsand is available for free. The full version of the plugin is currently available at a 24% discount until February 7th.
