Sinusoidal Run Rhythm, or SRRhythm, is a new audio tool developed in collaboration with composer Steffen Krebber. The plugin implements Krebber’s Sinusoidal Run Rhythm theory, introducing a mathematical approach to generating microtemporal rhythmic structures.
SRRhythm is based on a formula designed to create rhythmic patterns through sinusoidal wave interference. According to the developer, the system produces microtemporal rhythmic grids derived from a simple mathematical model. These grids offer an interpretation of metric structures that can be applied across a wide range of musical contexts.
The plugin expands on Steffen Krebber’s original formula by enabling the generated wave patterns to modulate multiple sonic parameters. In addition to amplitude, users can map the rhythmic structures to:
- Panning
- Binaural offset
- Filter cutoff
Each modulation destination can be used independently or in combination. Dedicated controls allow users to adjust the modulation amount for each parameter, as well as blend the processed and unprocessed signals using a mix control. This design supports applications ranging from pronounced tremolo-style movement to more subtle modulation of spatial or tonal characteristics.
SRRhythm also includes cross-plugin-instance synchronization. This feature enables multiple instances of the plugin within a project to share rhythmic and parameter data, maintaining consistency across tracks. The synchronization system is intended to support complex arrangements and live performance setups, where rhythmic groups can transition between patterns in real time.
A demonstration video accompanying the release presents SRRhythm in a live performance context. The performance features Dirk Rothbrust on drum set, with video and editing by Janet Sinica and recording production by Hendrik Manook.
Further information about the Sinusoidal Run Rhythm theory and Steffen Krebber’s compositional work is available on his website, where additional background material and publications related to the theory can be found.
Sinusoidal Run Rhythm is available for $59, with an introductory price of $45.
