United Plugins has launched a new drum enhancer plugin, Dropkick, for Windows and Mac. This innovative toolkit, designed to enhance electronic kick drum production, features eight finely tuned processors that can transform ordinary kick drums into powerful, standout sounds.
Dropkick is designed for sound designers and producers of electronic-based music. It has been tested and fine-tuned to work well across a variety of genres, including EDM, Drum & Bass, Techno, Trap, House and more. The plugin is packed with features, providing users with a comprehensive toolkit for kick drum enhancement.
Each of the eight processors in Dropkick has been meticulously crafted and fine-tuned. While each processor could function as a standalone plugin, they have been combined in Dropkick to provide a comprehensive suite of tools. This allows users to achieve a wide range of effects and enhancements for their kick drums.
Dropkick employs a high-pass filter to enhance the low end of the kick drum, a technique used by professional sound designers and mixing engineers. By setting the filter’s frequency at the fundamental and adding a little resonance, the bass is boosted and unwanted sub-harmonics are removed. Dropkick takes this technique further by resonating a single frequency, allowing users to strengthen and extend the fundamentals of their kick drums.
Dropkick also includes a feature to offset the lower frequencies, shaping the character of the transient and reducing the peak level. This is achieved using analogue-modelled filters, creating non-linearities that result in extremely smooth transitions and a touch of warmth. These filters have been fine-tuned to work well on kick drums, helping users to quickly find the sweet spot.
Dropkick includes several features to control the power of the kick drum. The DAMP feature progressively removes higher frequencies while still allowing the transient to cut through, enabling users to reshape the frequency content of their kicks. The CLEAN feature dynamically removes boxiness and muddiness, freeing up headroom and helping the kick to translate better in the mix. The TRIM feature shortens the length of the kick tail to keep it tight and prevent boominess. Users can simply listen in real-time and adjust a single knob until they achieve the perfect balance.
Finally, the SNAP feature enhances the attack and punch of the kick using an advanced transient processor that dynamically shapes the attack stage based on frequency content, fine-tuned for kicks. This technique delivers maximum punch with minimal increase in peak level, helping kicks cut through the mix.
United Plugins is currently offering an introductory discount of 72% off Dropkick, valid until February 29th.
