UnplugRed, a software development company, has launched SunBurnt, a free convolution reverb plugin compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. This unique plugin allows users to draw characteristics in the form of a curve, providing a new level of customization and creativity in sound design.
SunBurnt offers users the ability to create a variety of sound effects. For example, users can create a reverse reverb with an oscillating lowpass, with a tail that starts panned left and ends up panned right. Additionally, the plugin allows for the creation of a reverb with a tail that has a distinctive “wub wub wub wub” sound, with the end of the tail pitched up an octave.
The plugin also includes features that allow users to sync to beats per minute (bpm) by holding control while dragging the length knob. This feature provides the ability to achieve more chaotic and textural results by reducing the density parameter. Furthermore, the plugin can enter multi-tap delay mode by turning the density knob all the way down.
However, potential users should be aware that due to the extensive use of convolution, SunBurnt is somewhat CPU heavy. If users experience problems, it is recommended to increase the buffer size.
