UVI has launched Rumble, a multiband synthesizer designed specifically for bass-focused production. The instrument features a three-engine architecture that treats separate frequency ranges as independent synthesis layers before combining them into a unified output.
Rumble is built around three distinct bands named Body, Character, and Air. Each band operates as a full synthesizer engine with its own oscillator, wave-shaper, and dedicated effect slot. These bands are then routed through a shared filter stage, followed by a multiband compressor and master EQ section.
According to UVI, this structure is intended to address the demands of contemporary bass-driven music, where low-end weight, midrange articulation, and high-frequency presence often require separate control. By assigning independent synthesis engines to sub, mid, and high frequency ranges, Rumble allows users to shape each layer individually before blending them together.
Each band includes:
- An independent oscillator
- A wave-shaper with cross-band amplitude modulation injection
- A per-band effect slot with selectable processing
Once combined, the three bands pass through a shared processing stage that includes filtering, multiband compression, and master equalization. This unified stage is designed to integrate the discrete frequency components into a cohesive sound.
UVI describes the architecture as supporting a wide range of tonal approaches within the same per-band framework. These include vocal-formant synthesis, drone textures, percussive transients, cinematic motion, and analog-inspired warmth. The separation of bands is intended to maintain structural clarity across the frequency spectrum, allowing low-end content, midrange detail, and high-frequency elements to coexist without masking one another.
Rumble’s sound library has been developed by professional sound designers and producers working across multiple genres. The factory presets span a range of bass-oriented and textural categories, including:
- 808-style basses
- Wobble basses and modulated tones
- Drones and sustained textures
- Motion sequences and rhythmic elements
- Abstract and experimental sounds
Each preset is constructed using all three bands, with sub frequencies typically anchored in the Body layer, midrange movement shaped in Character, and transient or high-frequency detail defined in Air. The bands can interact dynamically, with cross-band modulation contributing to movement and tonal complexity.
Rumble is positioned as a dedicated solution for bass creation but is also capable of generating a broader range of sounds using its multiband synthesis structure. By combining three discrete engines within a single instrument, it provides a workflow centered on frequency-specific design and integrated processing.
Rumble is available from UVI and retail partners for $199, with an introductory price of $99 through June 28th. An iLok account is required for license authorization. A physical dongle is not required.
