VGTrumpet has launched VG Bassoon, a virtual instrument based on three layered bassoon sound sets. The instrument is designed for expressive MIDI performance with wind controllers, breath controllers, and MIDI keyboards.
VG Bassoon includes jazz bassoon, symphonic bassoon, and four-bassoon section voices. These can be loaded simultaneously as independent layers, allowing users to blend them in real time through MIDI continuous controllers.
The instrument’s Morph Mixer is intended to move between the available bassoon layers during performance, including while a note is held. This enables transitions from an individual bassoon voice to the symphonic sound set or four-player section within a single MIDI part.
VG Bassoon is available as a VST, VST3, and AU plugin, alongside a standalone application for Windows and macOS. It is designed to operate in major DAWs and does not require Kontakt or another sampler platform.
Its feature set includes:
- Three bassoon sound sets: jazz bassoon, symphonic bassoon, and four-bassoon section
- Morph Mixer for real-time layer blending via MIDI CC assignment
- Built-in Harmonizer, articulations, expressive effects, and assignable modulation effects
- Backing Track Player, Live Monitor, Quick Load Browser, and VG EVI Keys
The library uses 24-bit, 44.1 kHz samples and has an installed size of approximately 902 MB. VGTrumpet states that VG Bassoon supports a range of compatible breath and wind controllers, as well as expressive MIDI keyboard setups.
Documentation available from VGTrumpet covers installation, system requirements, controller compatibility, and frequently asked questions. The developer has also published a user manual and video demonstrations for the instrument.
VG Bassoon is priced at $44.95. A 20% discount is available until September 30, 2026, using the coupon code VGBSPDAC. VGTrumpet also offers a 20% discount on VG Bassoon for customers who already own a VG library.
