VGTrumpet has launched VG Oboe, a virtual instrument centred on three oboe sound sets for expressive MIDI performance. The instrument is available as a plug-in and standalone application for Windows and macOS.
VG Oboe includes Jazz Oboe 1, Symphonic Oboe 1, and Oboe Section x4. Each sound set can be loaded into its own layer, allowing the three voices to be combined within a single instance.
The instrument’s Morph Mixer is designed to blend these layers in real time using an assignable MIDI continuous controller. According to VGTrumpet, this allows players to move between the solo jazz, symphonic, and four-oboe section voices while sustaining a note.
VG Oboe is designed for use with wind controllers, breath controllers, and expressive MIDI keyboards. It is provided in VST, VST3, and AU formats, alongside a standalone version, and does not require Kontakt or another sampler platform.
Its performance and sound-shaping functions include:
- A built-in Harmonizer with adjustable interval and level settings for each voice.
- Articulations and expressive effects, along with portamento, chorus, phaser, filter, and LFO modulation.
- MIDI CC assignment for the available modulation and performance controls.
- Reverb, delay, and stereo controls.
The plug-in also includes a Backing Track Player for loading WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and MP3 audio files. This section provides a waveform display, seek control, looping, and an independent volume setting, allowing users to play the instrument alongside an audio file within the VG Oboe interface.
A Live Monitor is also included. It displays oboe artwork that responds to incoming MIDI CC data on screen.
VG Oboe is priced at $44.95. VGTrumpet is offering a 20% discount with the coupon code VGOBPDAB until August 31, 2026.
