Vienna Symphonic Library has released Duality Strings (sordino) for Synchron Sample Player.

News: Vienna Symphonic Library has released Duality Strings (sordino) for Synchron Sample Player.

The Vienna Symphonic Library has launched Duality Strings (sordino) for the Synchron Sample Player.

This new release allows users to add an additional layer of expression and sonority to their small and large string sections with muted string ensembles, recorded in the same manner as the first installment in the series, Synchron Duality Strings (regular).

While the large ensembles performed their instruments in Stage A, the small ensembles simultaneously played in the dryer Stage B of Synchron Stage Vienna. Both ensembles performed perfectly in sync, producing a beautiful velvety timbre that is still full of variety. The use of sordinos significantly expands the sound palette of string instruments, especially string ensembles. Despite the slight reduction in the volume of the instruments, playing with mutes is not synonymous with “playing quietly”. Instead, sordinos bring about a change in the frequency and sound spectrum, multiplying the possibilities of instrumentation, as demonstrated by great orchestrators and composers since the late 19th century.

Altering the sound of the instruments also significantly influences the attitude of the players. Musicians instinctively respond to the sound they produce as well as to the overall sonority of the ensemble. Consequently, passages played “con sordino” (with mute) will always be distinctly different from “senza sordino” (without mute) passages, even when a sordino effect is artificially applied to the recordings. The musical feeling and expression of first-class musicians make all the difference, beyond the mere placement of a piece of plastic or wood on the bridge of an instrument.

With this in mind, the Vienna Symphonic Library developed a sordino collection that is not just a reduced version of the non-sordino recordings. Following the Duality principle, each sordino articulation was recorded immediately after its non-sordino counterpart. The goal was for users to be able to activate or deactivate sordinos without creating a difference in expression, resulting in a continuous, coherent performance. This means that all the articulations of Duality Strings (regular) are also available with Duality Strings (sordino), except for snap pizzicato.

The introduction of Duality Strings (sordino) is currently available at a 27% discount for both Standard and Full versions. This offer is valid until October 30th.
