The plugin is modelled and fine-tuned based on modern analog tube preamps, allowing it to add harmonic distortion that is musical and pleasing to the ears. By simply turning up the Drive knob, users can make their vocals sound fuller and richer. However, users are advised to use this feature with caution as Fat Cat can quickly produce a very thick sound.
Initially, Fat Cat provides a gentle preamp saturation. As the Drive knob is turned up, the plugin starts to produce a warm saturation/distortion that is ideal for bringing vocals to the forefront of the mix. When the Drive knob is cranked up, Fat Cat transforms into a soft clipper, producing a warm and crunchy distortion.
The Mix knob on the plugin allows users to blend in the original unsaturated signal, resulting in a more natural sound through parallel saturation. In case the volume becomes too loud, users can always reduce it by turning down the Vol (Volume) knob. This ensures that the plugin can be used to enhance vocals without overpowering the rest of the mix.
