PIANESQUE is a new Kontakt instrument built around abstracted piano textures, developed from extensive processing of a grand piano. Rather than presenting a traditional sampled piano, the library focuses on resonance, sustained motion, and evolving harmonic material derived from experimental recording and sound design techniques.
The instrument was created by taking a grand piano and processing its sound through a range of external and digital methods, including guitar pedals, ebows, bows, and granular processing. The result is a collection of sustained tones and shifting textures that move beyond conventional piano articulation.
Instead of emphasising defined notes or performance-based phrasing, PIANESQUE centres on long-form textures and evolving harmonic states. Pressing a key can produce drifting harmonics, bowed tonal layers, or submerged chordal movement, shaped to unfold gradually over time.
The library is positioned for composers working in cinematic, ambient, and modern classical contexts. Its material is designed to support atmosphere-driven scoring, with a focus on restraint, slow development, and tonal ambiguity. The developer describes the instrument as exploring piano resonance as a primary sound source, allowing the familiar character of the piano to dissolve into more abstract sonic forms.
