Xeni-Audio has launched Swarm, a mixing plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Swarm is designed to enable linked tracks within a session to respond to one another in real time, with controls intended to manage frequency overlap, level relationships, tonal balance, and stereo placement.
The plugin centres on four processing areas: Separation, Alignment, Cohesion, and Pan Spread. Separation is intended to address instances where two tracks occupy the same frequency range by moving one track back while bringing the other forward. Alignment allows linked tracks to settle towards a shared level relationship.
Cohesion is designed to draw each track’s tonal balance towards a shared centre of gravity. Pan Spread addresses tracks that accumulate in the same part of the stereo field, causing them to move apart in the stereo image.
Swarm can link up to 64 plugin instances in a session through 16 independent Link Slots. Its live Feature Space display represents linked tracks as moving dots, with vectors indicating the direction in which the system is moving each track.
Additional per-track controls include Bias and Crest. Bias lets users determine which track takes priority in the upper register when tracks overlap in the same frequency area. Crest controls per-track punch or density using measured crest factor data.
Swarm provides stereo input and stereo output, and is built with the open-source iPlug2 C++ audio plugin framework. It supports VST3, Audio Unit, and CLAP hosts on the following platforms:
- Windows 10 and Windows 11, x64
- Linux, x86-64
- macOS 10.13 or later, with Universal support for Intel and Apple Silicon systems
A demo version is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. It includes the full plugin feature set and saves settings with the session, while muting audio for five seconds every minute.
Swarm is available at an introductory price of €19 until August 17, after which the price is listed as €39. The purchase includes lifetime updates and access across the supported plugin formats.
