XTERMINATORAPPS has launched Abletonlive.aaf, a desktop utility designed to convert AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) files into native Ableton Live Set (.als) files. The tool enables direct reconstruction of AAF session data inside Ableton Live, which does not provide native AAF import support.
AAF is commonly used for exchanging session data between digital audio workstations and video editing platforms. In workflows involving Ableton Live, transferring AAF projects typically requires exporting audio stems and manually rebuilding sessions, a process that can be time-consuming for complex timelines and does not retain certain structural elements such as clip boundaries or automation data.
According to XTERMINATORAPPS, Abletonlive.aaf reads the complete AAF timeline structure and converts it into a fully formed Ableton Live session. The resulting .als file can be opened directly in Ableton Live versions 10, 11, and 12.
The utility is designed to preserve detailed session information during conversion, including:
- Sample-accurate audio clip positions
- Volume automation curves
- Clip gain values
- Fade-in and fade-out envelopes
- Crossfades between adjacent clips
- Marker positions
- Track names
By retaining this data, the software aims to maintain the structural and timing integrity of the original AAF session within the Ableton Live environment.
Abletonlive.aaf supports AAF exports from a range of applications that generate standard AAF files. These include:
- Avid Pro Tools
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve
- Avid Media Composer
- Adobe Audition
- Steinberg Nuendo
- Apple Logic Pro
The tool operates as a standalone desktop application and runs natively on Windows 10 and 11, as well as macOS 10.14 and later, including systems based on Apple Silicon.
Abletonlive.aaf is available as a one-time purchase priced at $59.99 USD and includes a lifetime license. A free trial version offering five conversions is available without requiring a credit card.
