YBK Audio has launched Instrument Player, a standalone Windows application for hosting VST3 virtual instruments and audio effects. The app is designed to let users play installed VST3 instruments outside of a digital audio workstation, with MIDI capture, editing, and effect-chain management included.
Instrument Player scans installed VST3 instruments and audio effects, then presents them for use within the application. It can receive input from connected MIDI devices simultaneously, and also supports playing instruments from a computer keyboard.
A central feature is MIDI Replay, which continuously retains the previous five minutes of MIDI performance data in memory. Users can retrieve a recent passage, edit it in the built-in MIDI editor, and export the result as a standard MIDI file.
The application also includes an FX chain for loading VST audio effects. Users can add compatible effects to an instrument setup, adjust their parameters, and save the complete configuration for later recall.
YBK Audio states that Instrument Player is intended for desktop instrument playback without requiring a DAW, as well as for live-performance setups. The software supports VST3 plug-ins and is available for 64-bit editions of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Instrument Player is available as a one-time, one-device licence for $10, with a 7-day trial offered. YBK Audio is also offering the application free until October 19, 2026, during its first month of release.
