ZAK Sound has launched Atmospheres 2, a reverb plug-in that generates reverb textures from written text prompts. The free plug-in is designed to let users describe an imagined place, material, or feeling, then apply the resulting atmosphere to incoming audio.
Atmospheres 2 uses prompts to guide the character of its generated reverb spaces. Users can enter their own descriptions, with ZAK Sound noting that English prompts are intended to provide the best results. The process runs locally on the device, without requiring an account, cloud connection, or online activation.
The plug-in also includes a Random function for generating a phrase and a corresponding reverb space. According to ZAK Sound, using Random does not alter the current Mix setting, allowing users to browse generated atmospheres while retaining their existing wet/dry balance.
A central Mix control adjusts the balance between the original signal and the generated reverb. This provides a single control for setting how prominently the generated atmosphere is heard in the processed signal.
Atmospheres 2 combines its prompt-generated textures with water-inspired reverb processing derived from ZAK Sound’s Deep Waters 2. The two layers are blended automatically as part of the plug-in’s generated atmosphere process.
Generated atmosphere settings and the Mix value are stored within compatible DAW projects. This means that reopening a session, or duplicating an instance of the plug-in within a project, retains the associated atmosphere and mix configuration.
Atmospheres 2 is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. An AUv3 version compatible with iPhone and iPad is also available through the Apple App Store.
ZAK Sound Atmospheres 2 is free to download and use.
