So here’s a thing…
Audio Plugin Guy was started as a kinda fanzine for plugins. A mish-mash of reviews, interviews, news and demos made out of pure love for digital audio shenanigans. In the spirit of his concept we’re now gonna start bringing you regular webzine “issues” like this to jabber on about our favourite new things in the audio plugin world.
This may work, or it may not. We’re not afraid to try new things here at APG and we’re not afraid to fail. So here goes… let us know what you think in the comments.
Our Latest Articles
Just like a regular ‘zine, each issue contains a bunch of articles. Here’s what’s new this month:
Review: Beatformer from Accusonus – We jump right on this brand new tool for shaping your beats and breaks.
Review: Spiff from Oeksound – The team behind the now legendary Soothe turn their hands to transient design.
Review: Stratum from SONiVOX – Find out what kind of noises this brand new synth is making
Review: DAW Cassette from Klevgrand – let’s get nostalgic and make everything sound as bad it did on our walkmans (walkmen?)

Slate Digital update their Virtual Mix Rack

The widely loved Virtual Mix Rack from Slate Digital has had a bit of an overhaul recently. Subscribers and full license owners can update to v2.0 right now for the following benefits:
- Dream Strips – 8 Instantly Recallable and Customizable Channel Strip Configurations Accessible with 1-Click
- Redesigned Interface
- Easy Undo & Redo
- Removed Noise from the FG-N, FG-S, FG-Stress, FG-73 and FG-76
- Added a Clear Rack button
- Introduced the Oversampling option (through Settings menu)
- Added a second Library view: List view
- Added a “Search Modules” feature in the Library
This series of small but important changes are mostly intended to improve workflow speed when mixing as well as clean up the sound by removing the analog noise that was previously built in for realism. The Dream Strips have received mixed reviews online which have been mostly positive as they genuinely do help get to where you need to be faster.
A welcome improvement. Now… where’s our FG-X v.2, eh Steven?!

Kush release REDDI

Another one of our recommended subscription providers, Kush Audio, have announced the release of REDDI, a software emulation of a ‘legendary’ hardware DI box that we’d never heard of before.
Regardless of whether you know the hardware or not, there’s no denying that Kush are purveyors of some of the finest and most unique tone enhancing plugins on the market. REDDI is a welcome addition to the wide palette they provide, adding saturation and presence to low-end parts such as your basses and kicks.
Subscribers get it added to their collection at no extra cost. Those who prefer to own their licenses outright can buy it for just $45.

Polyverse release Wider

Everyone appreciates a bit of w i d t h.
We recommend achieving this with thoughtful instrumentation and arrangement in conjunction with space-making effects such as reverbs and delays… but sometimes you just wanna twist a dial and make something spread out around you. Simple HAAS delay type widening can result in pathetic mono collapsed sound but Wider from Polyverse claims to be able to increase width whilst preserving mono compatibility.
It’s free so why not try it yourself!
