RTM Audio has launched RYDE, a vocal level-riding plug-in designed to move vocal levels toward a selected target during mixing. The plug-in provides automatic and user-defined target options, sidechain-based music detection, and ARA support in compatible macOS hosts.
RYDE’s AUTO mode learns a target level from the vocal signal, while USER mode allows a fixed target to be set between -30 dB and -10 dB. Separate Range Up and Range Down controls limit the amount of gain increase and reduction, with each adjustable from 0 to 12 dB.
A Speed parameter determines how quickly the level ride follows changes in the vocal. The plug-in also includes Music Sense, which analyses backing music supplied through an external sidechain and adjusts the vocal target in response to that signal.
For mixing applications, Studio and Precise modes use lookahead processing. A Live mode removes lookahead for performance use. RYDE’s display presents ten seconds of level history, including the input level, ridden level, applied gain, and target level.
In ARA-compatible macOS hosts, users can select a clip and choose a backing track for analysis. RYDE then reads the full clip, with settings stored for each clip and saved with the session.
RTM Audio also provides a browser-based Sound Lab on the RYDE product page, allowing visitors to switch between A and B examples using their own audio file. According to the developer, files used in the Sound Lab are not uploaded.
RYDE is available for macOS 10.15 or later in AU, VST3, and AAX formats, with ARA support. Windows versions are available in VST3 and AAX formats.
RYDE is priced at $59 / €55 for a one-time licence covering two machines. A free 14-day trial is available.
