Astriiddev has launched free 8-bit sampler plugin, Ami Sampler, compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. This innovative plugin is inspired by the iconic sound of the Commodore Amiga PC, a home computer that revolutionized the industry in 1985.
The Commodore Amiga was a game-changer in the home computer market with its vibrant 16-bit graphics and four channels of 8-bit sampled audio. It was the first computer that enabled users to record and sequence instruments into a full song using sample sequencing software like ProTracker and OctaMED. This groundbreaking technology inspired a generation of musicians, programmers, graphic designers, and hackers to push the boundaries of what was possible. Despite the seemingly modest specifications compared to today’s computers, the Amiga’s unique sound and legacy continue to inspire.
The Ami Sampler is a modern interpretation of that iconic Amiga sound, designed for use in today’s Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). While it draws heavy inspiration from the Amiga, Protracker, and Fasttracker, it also incorporates elements from last trackers like Triton’s Fasttracker II and Milkytracker, as well as some modern sampler VST plugins. The Ami Sampler is not an emulator or a recreation of the late 80s software limitations. Instead, it aims to bring the classic Amiga sound into a modern DAW setting, ensuring it remains relevant and usable in today’s music production environment.
The Ami Sampler has been thoroughly tested and confirmed to work on various platforms. On Windows 11, it functions as a standalone app, a VST3 in Ableton, Studio One, and Tracktion Waveform. For MacOS Sonoma (Apple Silicon), it works as a standalone app, a VST3 in Ableton, and an AU in both Ableton and Garageband. On Linux Ubuntu 20.04, it operates as a standalone app, a VST3 in Ardour 8, and an LV2 in both Ardour 8 and MusE.
Astriiddev is providing the Ami Sampler for free.
