Dr. Zoppa has launched version 1.6 of AMI-POLYMARKOV, a generative MIDI plugin designed to learn from MIDI files or live performance input. Developed by Francisco Colasanto of CMMAS in Morelia, Mexico, the update introduces a new four-voice writing mode and meter-aware Markov chain behaviour.
AMI-POLYMARKOV generates MIDI material by analysing source patterns and applying Markov-chain processes to pitch and rhythm. Version 1.6 adds LOOP mode, which gives each of the four voices its own repeating phrase based on the opening bars of that voice’s source line.
During repeated loop passes, individual beats can be replaced with material from elsewhere in the same MIDI file. The DEJA VU control determines how much of the original loop remains, while RETURN sets the likelihood that an altered beat will revert to its original form on the following pass. This allows generated parts to retain a recurring pattern or continue changing over successive repetitions.
The WHAT CHANGES parameter selects whether the plugin replaces complete beats, including rhythm and notes, or changes pitch while maintaining the existing rhythm. LOOP LENGTH can be set from one to 32 bars.
Version 1.6 also adds METER LOCK, enabled by default. This setting makes the pitch and rhythm chains favour source material that occurred at the same metrical position within a bar, preserving relationships such as downbeats and offbeats from the analysed material.
Sessions created with earlier versions of AMI-POLYMARKOV remain compatible and play back as before. The update is free for existing customers.
AMI-POLYMARKOV is available for macOS in AU and VST3 formats, with support for Intel and Apple Silicon systems, and for Windows in VST3 format.
AMI-POLYMARKOV is priced at $29 until October 30, 2026, increasing to $39 afterwards. The three-plugin AMI-CMMAS bundle is priced at $69 until October 30, 2026, increasing to $99 afterwards. A free 30-day trial is available.
