Insanity Samples has launched Contra One, a solo double bass instrument designed for expressive, performance-led writing. The instrument concludes the manufacturer’s ONE series, which also includes Cello One, Viola One and Violin One.
Contra One includes 4,688 samples and 13 core articulations, covering sustained and performance-focused double bass techniques. The library includes expressive quivering long notes, ricochet bowing and performance trills, with articulation behaviour intended to support dynamic changes within individual notes.
The instrument uses Insanity Samples’ Overlay Threshold technology, which the developer states is intended to support performance control and articulation transitions. Depending on the articulation, Contra One provides up to four round robins, up to three dynamic layers, and additional velocity or dynamics response.
Four recorded signals are included: condenser microphone, ribbon microphone, and separate left and right room channels. The library has a stated size of 2GB before lossless compression.
Contra One is designed for use as a standalone solo instrument or alongside the other instruments in the ONE series, including musical arrangements requiring an individually performed double bass part.
Contra One is regularly priced at $87 and is available at an introductory price of $44 for a limited time.
