WaveMachine Labs has launched Drumagog 6, a drum replacement plug-in for macOS and Windows. The new version supports drum replacement from individual tracks and, in its Platinum edition, full-kit replacement from a stereo drum bus or other combined drum source.
Drumagog 6 is available as a VST3, Audio Unit and AAX plug-in, with ARA 2 support in compatible digital audio workstations. It is also supplied as a standalone application. Supported ARA 2 hosts include REAPER, Studio One, Cubase, Nuendo and Pro Tools.
The Platinum edition introduces Kit mode, which identifies kick, snare, hi-hat, tom, ride and crash events within a stereo drum track and can trigger separate replacement sounds for each instrument. Each identified drum has its own channel strip, and compatible DAWs can route each drum to a separate output for mixing. WaveMachine Labs states that this mode is intended for sessions using stereo drum mixes, overhead pairs or room microphone recordings where close microphone tracks may not be available.
Drumagog 6 displays detected trigger events on the waveform, allowing users to inspect and edit the events used for sample triggering. The update also adds Remove Similar and Keep Similar functions. These allow users to select a detected trigger and remove similar events, or retain only similar events, for tasks such as reducing kick bleed detected on a snare microphone track.
The plug-in includes a library system that measures characteristics of the source drum and ranks GOG samples according to their similarity to the recorded sound. A similarity map groups related sounds visually. Existing GOG files from Drumagog 3, 4 and 5 remain compatible, and users can create GOG instruments from folders of their own samples, with samples organised from softer to louder dynamics.
Drumagog 6 provides separate operating modes for different workflows:
- Live mode is designed for tracking and live performance, with WaveMachine Labs stating a response time of approximately 2 ms.
- Drum mode analyses audio 80 ms ahead of playback to assess individual hits for close-miked kick or snare replacement.
- Kit mode, included with Drumagog 6 Platinum, processes a complete drum kit from a combined drum source.
According to WaveMachine Labs founder Rim Buntinas, the update focuses on making detected hits visible and providing tools for correcting groups of false triggers, while Kit mode is intended to support full-kit replacement from a single drum bus.
Drumagog 6 requires macOS 10.13 or later, with native support for Apple Silicon and Intel systems, or 64-bit Windows 10 or later.
Drumagog 6 is available now. Drumagog 6 Pro costs $99 and includes Live mode, Drum mode, editing, library and MIDI functions, and the factory library. Drumagog 6 Platinum costs $199 and adds Kit mode, separate outputs per drum, automatic hi-hat and tom tracking, Stack, gate, transient shaper, convolution reverb, Morph|Engine and plug-in hosting. Owners of Drumagog 5 and ReStem 2 can upgrade at half price through October 30, 2026. A seven-day trial includes Platinum features.
