Dylan Mixer has launched Kaleidon Sequencer, a plug-in designed to sequence hosted VST3 effects in a serial rack. Kaleidon Sequencer can load up to eight effects and control their timing through tempo-synchronised patterns, MIDI note input, or host automation.
The plug-in is intended to let users apply existing VST3 effects at selected moments in a production or performance. Each loaded effect is assigned its own lane, allowing effects to be reordered in the rack and controlled independently.
In Sequence mode, Kaleidon provides patterns of between eight and 24 steps that follow the DAW tempo. Every lane can use its own pattern and can run at normal, half, or double speed.
Two lane behaviours, Throw and Cut, determine how an effect is applied within a pattern. Throw engages an effect on illuminated steps, while Cut removes an otherwise active effect on illuminated steps. Per-step Wet values can also be set, alongside Gate Shape controls for Length, Attack, and Release.
Kaleidon includes randomisation tools for creating patterns on an individual lane or across the full rack. A density control adjusts the amount of active steps while retaining the loaded effects, lane settings, and other existing configuration choices.
For live control, users can assign a MIDI note to each lane. Effects can be triggered as full-wet hits, or MIDI velocity can be used to set the strength of the effect. Holding an assigned note engages the effect, while releasing it returns the signal to dry. The plug-in also supports host-based Wet automation.
Preset and project saving includes the hosted effects and their rack order, as well as patterns, step counts, lane speeds, Wet settings, Gate Shape parameters, and MIDI note assignments.
Kaleidon Sequencer is available in VST3 format for Windows, and as a VST3 and Music Effect AU plug-in for macOS. It supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The effects hosted within Kaleidon must themselves be VST3 plug-ins.
The developer lists compatibility with VST3 and AU-capable DAWs including Cubase, Logic Pro, Reaper, FL Studio, GarageBand, Bitwig, and Ableton Live. Pro Tools and AAX are not currently supported.
Kaleidon Sequencer is available from the Dylan Mixer website for $49, with an introductory price of $29.
