DSPTone has launched DioDrive, an overdrive and distortion effects plugin for Windows and macOS. The plugin is designed around diode clipping and provides controls for shaping drive intensity, clipping character, filtering, and output level.
DioDrive is intended for applications including adding distortion to clean guitar parts, driving amplifier plugins or hardware signal chains, and shaping rhythm tracks. DSPTone states that the plugin covers settings from subtle breakup and punchy overdrive through to higher-gain distortion.
The Drive control adjusts the amount of gain, ranging from light drive to full distortion. Edge controls the clipping response, allowing users to move between smoother clipping and a more aggressive character. Trim Drive provides an additional gain stage that can be combined with Edge to increase the intensity of the distortion.
Additional tone-shaping controls include Tone, Low Cut, and Hi Cut. The plugin also includes Mix, PAD, and Out controls for balancing the processed signal, accommodating input level, and setting output level within a production or effects chain.
DSPTone cites several established guitar drive pedals as reference points for DioDrive’s range of clipping and overdrive responses, including the DOD 250, MXR Distortion+, ProCo RAT, Boss DS-1, Boss OD-1, Tube Screamer, Boss SD-1, Soul Food, and Fulltone OCD.
DioDrive is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS. A 14-day trial version is also available.
DioDrive is available at an introductory 30% discount for $20.30, reduced from the regular price of $29. The introductory offer ends October 20.
