AudioThing has launched Type X, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This plugin is a detailed emulation of the dbx® Model 1BX, a classic piece of consumer hi-fi audio equipment known for its ability to enhance the dynamic range of audio tracks.
Type X is designed to expand dynamics and add expressive contrast to audio tracks by dynamically increasing the difference between loud and soft passages. This feature aims to bring life, punch, and presence to any track. The plugin offers modern flexibility with a sidechain input that includes high-pass and low-pass filters, allowing users to have precise control over what drives the expansion. Additionally, it provides parameters for internal attack and release times, offering deeper shaping capabilities beyond the fixed response of the original hardware.
The plugin is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux, supporting VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, and CLAP formats. It is also available on the App Store for iOS and iPadOS, supporting AUv3 and standalone formats.
System Requirements
- Windows: 7 – 11, 2GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, VST2, VST3, AAX, CLAP (64-bit)
- macOS: 10.13 – macOS 15, 2GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP (64-bit), Universal 2 Binary
- Linux: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, 2GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, VST2, VST3, CLAP (64-bit)
The plugin uses both online and offline authorization for activation. It allows one license to be used on up to three computers and does not require an internet connection for activation. Notably, it does not utilize iLok for authorization.
The Type X plugin is priced at €59 but is currently available at a 51% discount, reducing the price to €29. Owners of Type A or Type B are eligible for an upgrade discount in their user area. This promotional offer is valid until July 31st.
