Augmatic Audio has launched Augmatic GRE Lite, a generative drum sequencer based on the Mutable Instruments Grids Eurorack module. The software is designed to create MIDI drum patterns through a combination of generative sequencing controls and rhythm-shaping parameters.
Augmatic GRE Lite is available as a MIDI VST3, CLAP and AU plugin, alongside a standalone application for Windows and macOS. It provides three generative channels for bass drum, snare and hi-hat patterns.
The plugin’s Topographic Engine uses an XY map based on the Grids module concept to morph between drum-pattern configurations. A separate Euclidean Engine generates evenly distributed patterns with up to 32 steps.
A Blend control crossfades between the Topographic and Euclidean engines, allowing users to combine the two sequencing approaches while retaining the underlying rhythmic structure. The developer states that the system is intended to make pattern changes possible through direct control adjustments rather than detailed manual MIDI sequencing.
Additional pattern controls include Linear Drumming, which determines whether drum voices play together or separately, and Velocity Bender, which adjusts note velocity to create accents and lower-velocity ghost notes. Swing, Shift, Humanization and Clock Divider parameters are also provided for timing and rhythmic variation.
According to Augmatic Audio, the plugin is intended for generating drum loops that combine repeatable rhythmic patterns with adjustable randomness. It can be used with MIDI-compatible drum instruments and hardware or software destinations that receive MIDI data.
Augmatic GRE Lite is available free of charge.
