Rewind is a virtual instrument expansion for MSoundFactory and the free MSoundFactory Player developed by MeldaProduction. It focuses on reverse sound manipulation through a granular engine and a tape reverse loop applied to 128 sample sources.
Rewind transforms its built-in samples with a reverse-playback approach, adding lo-fi character and tape-style textures. The instrument is designed to generate a wide range of tones, from delicate chimes and nostalgic pads to darker, suspenseful ambiances.
Granular Engine and Sampling
The core sampler lets you pick one of 128 sound sources. It slices each sample into grains and plays them backwards. You can adjust playback position, grain density and size. Additional controls include stereo width, detune, random variation and noise injection.
Lo-Fi and Filter Sections
The lo-fi section applies two types of degradation. The digital knob introduces bit reduction, while the analog knob adds warmth, saturation and subtle pitch variation. A toggle routes these effects either before or after the filter. The filter module offers low-pass, band-pass, high-pass and notch modes, each with frequency and resonance settings. Two ADSR envelopes shape overall amplitude and filter cutoff dynamics.
Reverse Tape Controls
A tape engine captures incoming audio and plays it in reverse. You can alter playback speed with octave-down and octave-up controls. Additional parameters include tape wear, smear, feedback regeneration and a fade control for smooth transitions.
Effects Suite and Master Section
Five effect modules are available for signal processing:
- Chorus
- Rotary speaker
- Flanger
- Tempo-sync delay with filtering
- Reverb
Effects can be reordered freely in the central panel. The master section provides a three-band equalizer, high-pass and low-pass filters, stereo width and mono switch. You also get a compressor, saturation and a loudness maximizer for final polish.
Intro Screen and Randomization
The simplified interface presents three primary controls: reverse amount, digital degradation and analog coloration. Users can browse all 128 sound sources directly. A single randomize button intelligently resets every parameter to generate new presets.
Rewind is available at no cost for existing MSoundFactory and MSoundFactoryLE owners. It can also be purchased separately for use with the free MSoundFactory Player.
Rewind is currently offered at €9, down from €69 (87% discount).
