Modartt Launches Syngular Instrument Expansion Pack for Pianoteq 9.

News: Modartt Launches Syngular Instrument Expansion Pack for Pianoteq 9.

Modartt has launched Syngular, a new instrument expansion pack for Pianoteq 9. The expansion introduces a set of sound design-focused instruments built on Pianoteq’s physical modelling technology.

Syngular is designed as an exploration-oriented extension of Pianoteq’s modelling engine, which is traditionally used to recreate acoustic instruments. With this expansion, the underlying string and hammer models are used as a foundation for generating a wide range of non-traditional and imaginary timbres, while retaining velocity sensitivity and dynamic response.

The expansion provides access to a broad set of physical modelling parameters that can be adjusted beyond conventional acoustic constraints. These parameters are intended to support experimentation and sound creation within Pianoteq’s established framework, allowing users to shape tones that are not tied to real-world instrument behaviour.

  • More than 50 presets, including Keys, Pads, Basses, Leads, and synth-like sounds
  • Over 30 adjustable physical modelling parameters
  • Natural velocity response derived from the Pianoteq engine

Syngular integrates with the existing feature set of Pianoteq Standard and Pro. Users can layer Syngular with other Pianoteq instruments, apply morphing between sounds, and make use of built-in creative tools such as Randomisation for generating variations. Additional expressive functions, including Mallet Bounce for repeated note articulation and integrated audio effects such as amp distortion and ping-pong delay, are also available.

The included presets are organised across several sound categories. These include a selection of keyboard-style sounds with varying tonal characteristics, a collection of pad textures, and a set of basses and leads intended for contemporary music production contexts. All presets are designed to be further modified using Pianoteq’s modelling controls.

Syngular is compatible with Pianoteq version 9.1 and later. It can be selected as part of a new Pianoteq purchase or added separately for existing users. The expansion is intended for users who want to explore sound design within Pianoteq’s physical modelling environment rather than focusing solely on acoustic instrument emulation.

Syngular is available as an add-on for Pianoteq 9.1 or higher at a price of €39.00. An introductory offer of 20% off is available for owners of a Pianoteq 9 licence until December 31.

Thoughts?

Sound design expansions like this often slot in when a project needs something expressive but not tied to a recognisable synth or sample source. They tend to work well for sketching ideas at the keyboard, then evolving parts further through layering, automation, or external processing as a track takes shape.

Would you see something like this living as a go-to writing tool, or more as a colour layer you bring in once the core arrangement is established? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
