Native Instruments to be acquired by inMusic.

News: Native Instruments to be acquired by inMusic.

Native Instruments has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by inMusic, bringing the Berlin-based music software company under the same ownership as brands including Akai Professional, Moog, M-Audio, Alesis, Denon DJ, Numark, Rane, and AIR Music Tech. The announcement follows a period of financial uncertainty for Native Instruments earlier this year.

Native Instruments entered preliminary insolvency proceedings in 2026, raising concerns across the music production community about the future of its platforms and product ecosystem. The company’s tools, including Kontakt, Komplete, Maschine, Traktor, iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx, are widely used by producers, composers, DJs, and sound designers in professional and project studio environments.

According to Native Instruments CEO Nick Williams, the newly signed agreement will see inMusic acquire the company in full. Native Instruments has stated that its existing products, brands, and platforms will continue under the new ownership. The company has also confirmed that current tools will remain supported and that development of future updates and releases is ongoing.

For many users, continuity is a central concern. Native Instruments products often form the core of studio workflows, with software licensing, authorisation systems, installers, and long-term update access playing an essential role in day-to-day production work. The company’s Native Access platform manages installation and activation for a broad range of instruments, effects, and sound libraries across its portfolio.

inMusic operates a portfolio of music technology brands spanning hardware and software. Its holdings include:

  • Akai Professional
  • Moog
  • M-Audio
  • Alesis
  • Denon DJ
  • Numark
  • Rane
  • AIR Music Tech

The acquisition places Native Instruments’ software-focused ecosystem alongside inMusic’s established hardware and DJ product lines. This alignment introduces potential operational connections between product categories that have traditionally been developed under separate companies.

One area of particular interest is the relationship between Maschine and Akai’s MPC platform. Both systems combine hardware and software elements for beat production and sampling-based workflows, and both have established user communities. With Maschine and MPC now part of the same wider ownership structure, they sit within a shared corporate environment for the first time.

Native Instruments’ portfolio also includes iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx, bringing a substantial catalogue of audio effects, mixing and mastering tools, and developer partnerships into inMusic’s ecosystem. These brands operate across native plugin formats and serve users in music production, post-production, and broadcast contexts.

The broader market context adds further significance to the acquisition. The audio software sector has experienced increased competition, expanded subscription models, frequent discount cycles, and the introduction of AI-assisted production tools. Native Instruments remains one of the most recognisable names in this space, with long-standing products that are integrated into professional and educational environments worldwide.

Native Instruments has indicated that its existing development roadmap will continue. The company has not announced any immediate changes to licensing systems, product structures, or pricing models as part of the acquisition. Details regarding integration processes, organisational structure, or long-term strategic direction have not yet been disclosed.

The agreement marks a new chapter for Native Instruments following a period of uncertainty. With inMusic’s existing presence across hardware instruments, controllers, DJ systems, and music production tools, the combined portfolio now encompasses a broad spectrum of music technology categories.

Further information about timelines, operational transitions, and any structural changes is expected to be shared as the acquisition process moves forward.
