SampleScience has launched VR-55 DrumComputer, available for free on both Windows and macOS platforms. This plugin is a modernized emulation of the iconic Boss DR-55 drum machine, offering enhanced features while preserving the original’s distinctive sound.
The VR-55 DrumComputer plugin faithfully recreates the original four drum voices of the Boss DR-55 — kick, snare, rim, and hi-hat — delivering a warm and nostalgic tone. In addition to these, it also includes a rare cymbal sample, extracted from a modified DR-55, thus expanding the sonic possibilities for users. The drum kit is replicated three times within the plugin, enabling users to layer sounds and create a custom, punchy drum mix.
Beyond the replication of the original drum sounds, the VR-55 DrumComputer plugin also includes additional features that enhance its creative flexibility. These include the original analog drum sound of the early 80s, six effects such as distortion, delay, reverb, sub, tape, and vinyl, a Multi-LFO, Highpass/Lowpass filter, and Amplitude range controls. The plugin is available in VST, VST3, and AU formats.
To run the VR-55 DrumComputer plugin, users will need Windows 8.1/10/11 or macOS 10.15 and above, 66.6 MB of HD space, a 2GHz Quad-core CPU or better with 4 GB of RAM or more, and a 64-bit VST/VST3/AU Host. It is important to note that the plugin is not compatible with Pro Tools.
