Wave Arts has launched FinalPlug 7, a limiter/loudness meter plugin available for both Windows and Mac. The new plugin merges a lookahead peak limiter with ITU BS.1770 loudness metering, offering a versatile tool for gain staging or volume maximization, and ensuring audio meets loudness and true peak delivery requirements.
The interface of FinalPlug 7 is user-friendly. When utilized as a loudness maximizer, users can select a desired output ceiling level and adjust the threshold level. To adhere to loudness and true peak delivery standards, users can select the “Analyze” preset, choose a delivery target specification, and play the session. The integrated loudness and true peak levels are displayed as the music plays and are highlighted in orange if they exceed the target levels. After playback, clicking the MATCH button adjusts the limiter parameters to meet the target specification.
FinalPlug 7 boasts a range of notable features. These include sonically transparent peak limiting, true peak limiting mode, auto-release mode, and limiter oversampling up to 8x. It also offers ITU BS.1770 loudness metering and the ability to write loudness and overflow state as automation parameters. The plugin provides a preset menu of common industry delivery targets, bit depth truncation from 4 to 24 bits, TPDF dithering with extensive noise shaping options, and UI customization.
The plugin requires a host program that supports audio plugins. It supports iLok licensing but does not mandate it. For Macintosh users, it supports AU, VST3, AAX, and is compatible with MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) to MacOS 14 (Sonoma). It natively supports Apple Silicon and requires a 64-bit host. For Windows users, it supports VST2, VST3, AAX, and is compatible with Windows 7/8/10/11. It also requires a 64-bit host.
A free trial of FinalPlug 7 is available, and the plugin can be purchased on the Wave Arts website. Downloads are available for both macOS and Windows. A manual is also available for download.
