Bunker Samples has launched Dan T’rung, a Vietnamese xylophone library for the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt. The instrument is based on a traditional bamboo mallet instrument from Vietnam’s Central Highlands and is available with an introductory discount.
The T’rung is a centuries-old instrument traditionally associated with rituals and nature in Vietnamese culture. Constructed from bamboo, it has become closely linked with the country’s musical identity. The modern version represented in this library is fully chromatic and spans more than three octaves, extending its applicability across a wide range of musical contexts.
Dan T’rung for Kontakt is designed to capture the instrument’s bright tonal character and percussive articulation. The library includes both single hits and rolls, with crossfading between articulations for fluid performance control. Users can customise how they switch between hits and rolls in real time, adapting the instrument’s response to different playing styles or sequencing approaches.
According to Bunker Samples, the sound can evoke natural and traditional atmospheres while also serving more contemporary arrangements, such as adding percussive movement to arpeggiated synthesiser parts.
The library includes the following sampled content:
- Hits with 4 round robins and 4 dynamic layers
- Rolls with 3 dynamic layers
- Resonant rubs with 3 speed variations
- 11 glissandi captured using Kontakt’s Time Machine Pro
In total, the instrument comprises 2,370 samples. The uncompressed sample pool occupies 2.11 GB, with a lossless compressed installed size of 998 MB. The library ships with two Kontakt patches.
Dan T’rung requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 6.7.1 or later and is not compatible with the free Kontakt Player.
Additional performance and mixing features are integrated into the interface. Independent ADSR controls are provided for hits, rolls, and rubs, allowing detailed shaping of each articulation type. Users can accent rolls or rubs with an automatic hit overlay, and a flexible articulation switching system supports keyswitches, temporary hotkeys, or MIDI CC assignment.
Further signal control options include:
- Per-signal stereo width adjustment
- Individual delay and reverb sends for each signal
- Routing of each signal to Kontakt’s discrete outputs for separate processing within a DAW
Dan T’rung is also included in the Vietnam Bundle, which is available at a discounted rate during the same promotional period.
Dan T’rung is priced at $39 and is available for $25 until February 28. The Vietnam Bundle (regularly $78) is available for $39 during the promotion. The offer expires on February 28.
