Rast Sound has launched Splitz, an effects rack plugin designed to divide an incoming audio signal into separate components for independent processing. The plugin includes seven built-in effects and supports third-party VST3 plugins, as well as Audio Units on macOS, including use in Pro Tools.
Splitz provides four signal-splitting modes: centre and sides, lows, mids and highs, loud and quiet passages, and hits and tails. These modes allow users to apply processing to specific spatial, frequency, level, or time-based components of a sound.
Each separated component can use up to four effect slots. The included processors are Colour saturation, Tone EQ, Glue compression, Space reverb, Echo delay, Mod modulation, and Duck ducking. Users can combine these processors with supported third-party plugins in the available slots.
The centre and sides mode can be used to process mid and side information separately, while the frequency mode separates low, mid, and high ranges. The loud and quiet mode distinguishes between higher- and lower-level material, and the hits and tails mode separates an attack from the material that follows it.
Rast Sound describes Splitz as intended for processing individual elements such as drums, bass, vocals, keys, mallets, and stereo instruments, as well as mix bus and mastering material. Example applications include applying compression to drum sustain while retaining transients, adding saturation to vocal phrases at higher levels, or placing delay on the side component of a stereo source.
According to the developer, Splitz recombines its separated parts without changing the signal when no effects are loaded. The plugin is designed to keep its parts time-aligned when inserted effects introduce latency.
Individual parts can be soloed, muted, balanced with gain and pan controls, and adjusted using mix controls. Splitz also includes dry/wet blending, A/B comparison, undo and redo functions, and the ability to save split configurations and effect chains as user presets.
Splitz is available for €99, with an introductory price of €59.
