Resonant DSP has launched Swanky Amp Free version 2, an open-source tube amplifier simulation for macOS and Windows. The update introduces a redesigned interface alongside changes and fixes to its audio processing.
Swanky Amp Free is based on simulations of tube amplifier circuitry. Resonant DSP states that the plugin is designed to model amplifier touch response, sag and note bloom, with sounds ranging from clean tones to crunch and vintage-style distortion.
The plugin includes controls for blending between three tone stacks and varying the number of preamp tubes. Its gain staging controls are intended to allow users to set the amount of drive while adjusting output to a suitable listening level.
Version 2 supports VST3, CLAP and Audio Unit formats on macOS, as well as a standalone application. It is intended for use in compatible DAWs and as a standalone amp simulation.
Swanky Amp Free requires macOS 11 or later, or 64-bit Windows 10 or later. A working GPU is required for the interface. The source code is available under the GPLv3 licence.
Swanky Amp Free version 2 is available as a free download without signup or a product key.
