News: Steinberg Media Technologies has released Bass Machina, a multi-sampled virtual five-string bass library for creating aggressive metal tones.

Steinberg Media Technologies has launched Bass Machina, a multi-sampled virtual five-string bass library designed for creating aggressive metal bass parts. The instrument uses DI recordings of a Kiesel five-string bass with steel strings and includes performance controls, articulations, sequencing tools, and an effects rack.

Bass Machina contains 6 GB of direct-input recordings intended to provide a source for processing with external or included amplification and effects. Steinberg states that the recordings focus on pronounced attacks, low-end response, and upper-frequency detail associated with steel-string bass performances.

The library includes picked sustains, taps, slaps, pops, and muted notes. It also provides real-time articulation switching, programmable slides at different tempos, and controls for hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Performance parameters include pick direction, selectable play modes, hand-position adjustment, pitch-bend settings, and auto-hammer controls. These options are intended to help users program bass parts ranging from sustained notes and fast passages to percussive playing techniques.

Bass Machina also includes an onboard arpeggiator and sequencer for creating rhythmic bass patterns. Its controls cover rhythm, steps, velocity, swing, and humanisation, while users can save their own patterns and access included presets. An auto-strummer and a full effects rack are also provided.

The library was created with Craig Peters, a composer and guitarist associated with Soundiron. Peters’ credits include work on the game soundtracks for Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith and The Fight for Sanctuary and The Long Dark: Crossroads Elegy, as well as metal releases including Deeds of Flesh’s Portals to Canaan and his Destroying the Devoid project.

Bass Machina is available for $99.99, with an introductory price of $79.99.
