Meltopia has launched MIDI Command Studio, a Windows utility designed to extend the functionality of MIDI controllers beyond their DAW’s built-in mapping systems. The application enables users to assign MIDI hardware controls to a range of Windows-level actions, supporting broader workflow integration across audio and general desktop tasks.
MIDI Command Studio allows MIDI buttons, knobs, faders, and encoders to be mapped to Windows keyboard shortcuts, macros, and application-specific commands. The software is intended for users who want to repurpose MIDI pads, compact controllers, or control surfaces as hands-on tools for navigating audio applications, streaming software, editing programs, and other Windows-based environments.
The utility supports a variety of assignment types, including:
- Triggering Windows keyboard shortcuts
- Executing custom macro actions
- Controlling application or system volume
- Switching between presets
- Launching soundboard or sample-triggering actions
MIDI Command Studio operates at the Windows level rather than within a single digital audio workstation. This approach allows users to control multiple applications or system functions from a single MIDI device, without relying exclusively on DAW-specific MIDI mapping features.
Key functionality includes per-device preset management and quick preset switching. Users can create different control layouts for separate MIDI devices or working contexts, and change between them as needed. The software also supports app-targeted shortcuts, enabling MIDI assignments to interact with specific applications rather than sending global commands.
In addition, MIDI Command Studio provides app-specific volume control. This allows users to adjust the audio level of individual Windows applications directly from mapped MIDI hardware, offering a hands-on method for balancing audio sources during tasks such as streaming or multi-application editing.
Soundboard and sample-triggering functionality is also included, enabling MIDI pads or buttons to activate audio clips. This feature is positioned for users working with live content, streaming setups, or production environments that benefit from direct hardware-based triggering.
MIDI Command Studio is available in a free version for testing purposes, with usage limits applied. A paid licence unlocks higher limits and expanded functionality.
