Xeni Audio Launches SpectralMediator Anti-Masking Plugin.

News: Xeni Audio Launches SpectralMediator Anti-Masking Plugin.

Xeni Audio has launched SpectralMediator, an anti-masking spectral dynamics plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The software is designed to help two audio tracks avoid frequency clashes through paired, multiband dynamic processing.

SpectralMediator operates as a multiband dynamics processor that reduces overlapping frequencies between two sources. Users can define frequency bands and set threshold and ratio values so that only the frequencies identified as clashing are attenuated. The processing is focused specifically on areas of spectral overlap rather than applying broadband ducking.

Two instances of the plugin can be paired directly from a dropdown menu, removing the need to configure a separate sidechain bus. This pairing system allows coordinated processing between tracks within a session.

The plugin includes the following features:

  • Per-band dynamic ducking
  • Bidirectional control between paired instances
  • Dual real-time FFT analyzers
  • Attack, release, and makeup gain controls per side
  • Up to 16 paired instances per session

SpectralMediator allows unlimited user-defined band splits on each side, with independent threshold and ratio settings per band. The interface is resizable, and the plugin has been optimized for CPU efficiency. It is built using the iPlug2 open-source C++ audio plugin framework.

Under the hood, the plugin uses FFT magnitude exchange via Boost.Interprocess shared memory with 1024 linear bins. This architecture enables communication between paired instances while maintaining independent operation inside the host environment.

SpectralMediator is intended for mixing scenarios where two elements compete in similar frequency ranges. Examples of use include kick and bass, vocal and guitar or synth, snare and overheads, and backing vocal stacks or dialogue over a music bed. The design scope focuses on spectral separation through dynamic interaction between tracks.

The plugin is available in the following formats:

  • VST3 for Windows, Linux, and macOS
  • AU for macOS
  • CLAP for Windows, Linux, and macOS

System compatibility includes Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), Linux x86-64-v3, and macOS 11 or later with support for both Intel and Apple Silicon systems.

A free demo version is available with full functionality, except for a brief audio mute every 60 seconds. SpectralMediator is distributed via Gumroad, with licenses delivered by email. The purchase includes future updates and a separate license key issued through McPlugins.

SpectralMediator is currently available for €9 as part of a launch offer, reduced from €29. The introductory price is valid until June 1st.
